The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The one-time leader was found guilty of planning a armed takeover in the ninth month and given more than 27 years in jail, but he remained under confinement pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information emerged.

This involved attempting to break his tracking device and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could enable a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears

In a document approving the detention, the judge said data from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his escape.

His offspring, Flávio, who holds office as a senator, called for a gathering of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on the weekend.

Background on Conviction

Bolsonaro was determined responsible of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Lula.
